TAN THROUGH CLOTHING, FOR MEN AND WOMEN

Pow-Wow Tribe clothing and swimwear seeks to minimize tan lines with beautiful hand-drawn pieces that you can tan through. Our clothes are UPF 5, meaning you get some protection for your skin - all while getting tan when you’re in the sun, whether you’re at the beach or going for a run.

Textile Techonology

Pow-Wow Tribe minimizes tan lines with tan through clothes that will allow you to get a tan whenever you're out in the sun.

The secret lies in the use of a special fabric, in which the mesh has been scientifically developed and tested to allow the transmission of a greater portion of the sun's rays. The seams and elastics are the only elements that hinder this transmission.

In the textile world, this is defined as a UV Protection Factor (UPF) in order to measure quantitatively and accurately measure the UV protection of a textile. In the case of Pow-Wow fabrics, the UV protection (UPF) value is 5, a much lower index compared to the UV protection factor of traditional fabrics (UPF 30 to 50) (*).

(*) UPF is not the same as SPF. FPU is the UV protection factor of a textile and FPS is the UV protection factor used in sunscreens. FPU 5 means that one in five rays radiates beyond the fabric and reaches the skin.

Certified Product

ACCORDING TO UV STANDARD 801

Pow-Wow Tribe products have been tested and certified by CITEVE - a member of the "International Test Association for Applied UV Protection." The test methods developed by CITEVE allow us to measure the UV protection factor of a textile according to the standard UV Standard 801, and it is always calculated based on the worst case scenario.

What does that mean? The UPF determination test is based on the solar spectrum in Melbourne, Australia, at its maximum intensity in January, and considering the most sensitive skin type. The tests concluded that the Pow-Wow products have a low protection factor (UPF 5).

PROTECT YOUR SKIN

REMEMBER THAT YOUR SKIN IS YOUR BODY'S BIGGEST ORGAN

On one hand, prolonged and excessive skin exposure to the sun's rays may represent health risks. On the other hand, sunlight has benefits for the body when the exposure is moderate. Its benefits are mainly associated to our bone structure, because our body produces vitamin D naturally when it’s directly exposed to sunlight.

Pow-Wow Tribe seeks to combine natural tanning with conscious and safe sun exposure. In order to achieve the best results, it is very important to consider our instructions:

1 - Apply sunscreen all over the body 30 minutes before sun exposure, and re-apply after swimming.

2 - Understand that tanning takes time. Exposure to the sun should be careful and progressive - meaning you should start with short periods early in the day, and avoid hours of the sun's highest intensity.

3 - The lighter the skin tone, the higher the SPF the sunscreen must be, with a minimum of SPF 30 to avoid burning.

4 - Drink fluids often as they help to moisturize your body and skin to maintain a natural balance.

WARNING!

Pow-Wow products are not meant to replace sunscreen, which should still be used, especially on the sun-exposed skin.

Type of skin

Not all types of skin react in the same way when exposed to the sun. In order to achieve the best results it is important to know your skin type and its protection time. Dermatologists have distinguished five types of skin with different sun protection times.

CALCULATE YOUR
PROTECTION NEEDS

To calculate your protection needs you should take into consideration the intensity of solar radiation as well as your skin type. The Ultraviolet Index (UVI) (*) provides information on the intensity of solar radiation at a specific location and varies according to the time of day, longitude /latitude and the time of year.

(*) The daily UVI for Portugal is published on the website of the Institute of Meteorology - www.meteo.pt
